If you hear a "ringing" on your phone, this may be a new notification for Facebook Messenger. Depending on how painful the noise is, the volume is adjusted loudly. Luckily you are not tied to this unique alarm option. So if you are dissatisfied with both this tone and the ringtone, you can change it to something else ̵
The catch? You have to run Android. If you are an iPhone user, the default ringtone of Messenger for notifications and the default ringtone of Messenger are preserved. However, there are a few tiny tweaks that you can make on iOS, and we'll do that after explaining the Android side of things.
Change alarm and ringtones on Android
Start Messenger Tap on your profile picture in the top left corner of one of the two main tabs. The Settings menu opens. Now search for "Notifications & Sounds" and tap on it. Here you will find both "notification tone" and "free call ringtone". Tap one of the two options to open the advanced settings.
Now that no two Android devices are truly unique, no two Messenger accounts have the same notification tone and ringtone menus. That's because Facebook does not have any custom sound options for you here except the standard "messenger" alert tone and ringtone. Instead, this option menu displays your system's notification sounds and ringtones.
The sounds vary from Android device to Android device. Google Pixel models have other options than Samsung Galaxy phones that have options other than OnePlus models, just to name a few. So we can not say exactly what options are available. Even for certain apps on your phone, sounds may appear in the list, such as: B. Slack.
Regardless of which options you see here, tap each option to hear a preview to see if they are right for you or not (you may need to mute your Pick up the phone). If you find one you like, you can leave this page by tapping "OK". The next time someone calls you who did not open the messenger app, they will hear something other than Messenger's default settings.
Note that there is also an "in-app sounds" setting. Disables only sounds that are heard when the app is open. For example, when someone sends a new message or someone types. If you go into "Manage Alerts," you can disable the "Show Alerts" option, which disables alert tones and ringtones for Messenger.
What you can change on iOS
You can not select Custom Alarm Tone or Ringtone for your messenger notifications on iOS. There are some in-app sounds that you can change, namely sounds and vibrations in the app.
However, customizing these sounds will not affect the default messenger ringtone "notification" or "default ringtone" for messenger calls, because for some reason you are stuck with these settings, and even the iOS sound settings will not make a difference The best you can do to avoid hearing these messenger alerts is to mute your iPhone.
To turn off the sounds when Messenger is open, tap your profile icon in the upper-left corner of one of the primary tabs, and then tap Tap on "Notifications in Messenger" and uncheck the box next to "Sounds." You will no longer hear in-app sounds, but you'll still hear messenger notification sounds and ringtones if you're not in the "Notifications." App.
You can not hear the sounds when you mute your iPhone or set the notification period f disable app. To do the latter, open the Settings app, tap Notifications, tap Messenger, and then turn off Sounds. However, this turns off only the notification sound, not the ringtone.
Hopefully more options will be added to Messenger's iOS app in the near future. While IOS is not known for its customizability, you can create your own text sounds and ringtones for other apps on your iPhone.
