How to change your navigation icon in Google Maps «Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks

For the most part, new features for Google Maps, such as B. Live View Augmented Reality Walking Navigation, initially provided for Android.

One exception is changing your vehicle icon in the driving navigation, which is now available after debuting on iPhones and iPads for Android.

With either version, however, the ability to choose your navigation icon isn’t very obvious. Find out how to do it.

Step 1: Update Google Maps

Google Maps for iOS already has this feature, so you don’t need to update your app. However, this is new to Android. As of this writing, the official support page for this feature states that it is not available for Android. So Android users should make sure that their apps are updated.

Step 2: Navigate to a location

Open Google Maps and use the search bar to find a destination to navigate. If you don’t have a location in mind, you can also use Explore to discover a nearby location.

On the information page for the location, tap the Start button to start the navigation. Or tap the Get Directions button if you need to make adjustments to your trip such as: B. Add stops, choose routes, or select the transport mode (you need to make sure directions are selected to change your icon) before tapping Start to begin navigating.

Step 3: change the icon

When you’ve started navigating, but before you set off, tap the blue dot that represents you and your vehicle. This will bring up the available options. Aside from the standard blue arrow, it can be a red sedan, yellow SUV, or green truck. Sure, the choice is limited (there’s no Batmobile like there is in Waze), but if you’re bored of the blue arrow, it’s something.
