Discord cache files are created with every picture, video, and funny GIF you send and receive on the platform, and fill up your storage space unnecessarily. You can follow the steps below to easily clear Discord cache files on your Windows 10, Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
How to Clear Discord Cache Files on Windows
In order to clear the Discord cache files on your Windows PC, you have to delete the files manually.
You can find them in the Discord AppData folder. Enter the following in the file path box to open it in Windows File Explorer:
In your Discord AppData directory, find the “Cache”, “Code Cache” and “GPUCache” folders. You can safely right-click these and then click “Delete”.
You will then need to empty the Recycle Bin to ensure that the files are completely deleted. To do this, simply double-click the trash can icon on your desktop and then click “Empty Trash”.
How to Clear Discord Cache Files on Mac
You can clear Discord cache files in a similar way on Mac. First, open Finder, then click Go> Go to Folder.
To use the Discord files to access the hidden folder, enter the following in the Go to Folder text box:
In the Discord data folder, right-click the Cache, Code Cache, and GPUCache folders, then click Move to Trash (or Move to Trash).
Next, you need to empty the trash. Just right-click the trash can icon in the Dock, then click “Empty Trash” (or “Empty Trash”).
How to Clear Discord Cache Files on Android
Just like on Windows PCs and Macs, the Android version of the Discord app stores certain files (like pictures and videos) as cache files.
You can delete these by clearing the Discord cache from the Android settings menu. The steps vary depending on your device and Android version. The steps below work specifically for Android 10 or higher.
First, swipe down from the top once (or twice) and tap the gear icon to jump into your device’s Settings menu. Then tap on “Apps”.
Scroll down to “Discord” or enter it in the search bar at the top and tap on it to continue.
You can see how much memory the app is currently using in the Discord menu. Tap Storage for more options.
In the “Storage” menu, you can delete all app data or simply delete saved cache files. Tap “Clear Cache” to do the latter.
This will delete any excess cache files for the Discord app on your Android device immediately. You can do this regularly to keep the amount of data stored by the app to a minimum.
How to Clear Discord Cache Files on iPhone or iPad
Unfortunately, there is no built-in method for clearing cache files on an iPhone or iPad. You’ll need to delete the Discord app to clear any cache files you may have saved, and then reinstall it from the App Store.
To do this, tap Settings> General> iPhone (or iPad) Storage, scroll down and tap “Discord”.
Then tap on “Delete app” and then tap again on the following screen to confirm.
Alternatively, you can long press the Discord icon on the home screen and then tap on “Delete App” to delete Discord.
Once removed, find the app in the app store and reinstall it. You will need to log into your Discord account again to use the app again.
