The Nintendo Switch Lite works differently than the standard Nintendo Switch. In particular, the console can not be toggled between handheld mode and docked mode. One reason for this is that the controls on the Switch Lite are not removable from the system itself. However, this design choice does not mean that the Joy-Con controllers are not fully compatible with the Switch Lite. With the right accessories and a few tips, you can play in tabletop mode with the Switch Lite and control it via the Joy-Con controllers. How to Use Joy Con Controller for the Nintendo Switch Lite:
How to Connect Joy Cons to the Nintendo Switch Lite
1. Buying a Joy-Con Controller
Before you can use the Joy-Con controllers with Nintendo Switch Lite, you need some accessories. The first is the Joy-Con controllers themselves.
They come in packs of one or two with Joy-Con straps for horizontal play. We recommend using the twin pack as this will allow you to play all the Switch games with the Joy Conss, as some do not support Joy Con games.
If you plan to play Kart 8 Deluxe with other players in games like Mario then you should pick up a second pack of Joy-Con controllers.
. 2 Fetch Charging Station
Next you need to purchase a charging station for the controllers, as Joy-Cons can not be charged with the Switch Lite. There is a Four Controller Charging Station that you can get online or in most major retailers that are powered via a USB connection. It even provides battery status indicators for the controls.
If you are not using the Joy-Con controllers, they should be stored in the station so that they are always ready for use.
. 3 Get a Stand
If you want to play your Nintendo Switch Lite with Joy-Cons, you need something to keep it upright, as its predecessor's mini-stand is not included. We recommend the HORI Dual USB Playstand for its charging and connecting functions. Any stand that puts the Switch Lite in an upright position, however, is sufficient.
