How to customize quick responses for negative calls in the Google Phone app «Android :: Gadget Hacks



Google makes its phone app, the standard dialer for Pixel and Android One devices, available to many other smartphones via the Play Store. If you want to replace your factory-installed dialer to take advantage of the spam filtering features, you don’t want to be without other features such as: B. the ability to customize predefined responses for negative calls.

When you receive an incoming call using the Google Phone app, you have your default answer and decline options. However, you will then also see the Reply button. Tapping it will give you a list of general replies to choose from, which will then be sent as a text message to the caller. Here̵

Step 1: Set Google Phone as the default dialer

If you haven’t already, install the Google Phone app from the link below. It is now available for the latest Android phones. More devices will be compatible in the coming weeks.

The first time you open the app (or if you open the app and it’s not your default dialer yet) you’ll be asked to set it as your preferred option. Tap the “Set as Default” button to agree.

This will open a window with all the available dialer apps available. The radio button next to your current standard app is colored blue. Tap the radio button next to the Google Phone app, denoted by the blue app icon, then tap “Set as Default”.

Step 2: Enter the settings menu

Open the app, tap the three dot menu icon in the top left corner and select “Settings”. From the Settings menu, choose Quick Replies.

Step 3: revise standard options

You will now see a list of the standard answers. Tap the answer you want to edit to bring it up. A text box will appear with the answer filled out in it. Tap the field to edit the answer.

Enter what you want. The world is your oyster. When you’re done, tap OK to transfer the answer to the app’s memory. Repeat for the other answers if you wish.

Step 4: Choose Answer in a Call

The next time you get a call, tap the Reply button to decline a text message. The app will show you your quick reaction options, including any custom messages you’ve created. Tap a reply to decline it and send text to the caller.

You can also select “Write your own …” to receive a specific message on site. After composing it, tap Send to decline and send the message.
