Let's say you want to download an Instagram video to your iPhone. How's it going? While Instagram offers no official solution, there are back-channel methods to get the job done. However, if you would like to download Instagram videos directly to your Photos app, you can first upgrade your iPhone to iOS 12 and install shortcuts.
Shortcuts on Apple's newest mobile operating system introduce a system to develop complex and useful tasks automatically run on your iPhone. What used to be possible only on desktop computers can now be done on your smartphone. With this technology, you can download almost any video you find on Instagram directly to your iPhone. You just have to have the right shortcut.
: Add the shortcut & # 39; SMD 3.5.8 & # 39;
Thanks to Reddit user Varoeldurr, we now have access to the correct abbreviation. Varoeldurr has published this workflow as part of a shared collection of custom shortcuts. While there are many excellent shortcuts to dive into, there is only one thing that interests us about this problem. It will also work in the workflow app if you have not upgraded to iOS 12 yet.
First, tap the link on your iPhone. On the following screen, tap "Get Shortcut." You will be greeted by a screen asking if you want to enable autosave (0 for yes, 00 for no). Auto-Save automatically downloads videos in photos. Without them, you'll need to take two more steps to save videos to your iPhone.
Tap Next. Finally, choose your language by entering the appropriate number from the key listed here. When done, tap Done and the link will be saved.
Not that this link seems to use third-party services to download the media. We're looking for someone to read directly from the Instagram API to replace it, but until then this is a great option that you can take advantage of.
Step 2: Choose Your Instagram Video
Once the link is installed, open Instagram and find a video you'd like to download. This works for videos in your feed, on the Explore tab, for specific accounts, and for IGTV. The only exceptions are stories and Instagram video ads. Unfortunately, these are not compatible with this link as there are no options to share this type of video or copy their URLs (more on that below).
While downloading Instagram videos is easy thanks to this shortcut, it will not be the same experience for everyone. Oddly enough, some users see various ways to share links in Instagram, which affects the use of the link. We will go over the two main methods here. Do not worry if you do not fit in Method 1 because all users can use Method 2.
When you have your video handy, tap the ellipsis (• ••) for the video. Touch "Share with …" and choose "Shortcuts" from the sharing sheet. If there are no shortcuts, swipe the bottom bar to the bottom of the list, then tap More and add it. After the link share, tap the Instagram Downloader shortcut. The shortcut will be executed and your video will be downloaded in seconds.
If you have auto-save enabled, the video will be saved directly to your Photos app and you will be notified by a notification that the download was successful. 19659002] If Auto-Save is off, the video itself will be displayed on your iPhone as shown in the above GIF. You'll need to tap the Share icon and then tap "Save Video" to complete the download. However, you can also share the video or save it to files from the sharing sheet if you do not want to download the file to your device.
For users who have the option "Share with …" do not see, tap the ellipsis (•••) of the selected video. Select "Copy Link" to save the video's URL to the clipboard on your iPhone.
After saving your URL to your clipboard, you can download your video. Open the shortcuts and tap "SMD 3.5.8". Sit back and watch your link unfold its magic.
If you have auto-save enabled, the video will be saved directly to your Photos app and you'll be notified by a notification that the download was successful
When auto-save is turned off, the video itself is displayed on your iPhone. You'll need to tap the Share icon and then tap "Save Video" to complete the download. However, you can also share the video or save it to files from the sharing sheet if you do not want to download the file to your device. (See Method 1 for screenshots.)
If you need to rely on Method 2 to download your videos, there are a few extra measures you can take to make the process even more convenient:
You can combine Siri with many of your shortcuts so that you can only execute commands with your voice. In Shortcuts, tap the tile (•••) in the SMD 3.5.8 tile and then tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner. Next, tap "Add to Siri," then when prompted, either enter the desired phrase or note that Siri should link. Tap Done when you're done.
Once you've copied the URL of an Instagram video to your clipboard, you can just speak your phrase with Siri, and your iPhone will start linking as if you'd tapped the tile in shortcuts. That way, you do not have to open the shortcuts app at all.
. 2 Adding Your Shortcut to the Home Screen
Another handy tool is adding your shortcut to the Home screen. This will allow you to simply leave Instagram after copying the URL and tap the shortcut to start downloading.
Adding shortcuts to the Home screen is quick and easy. In Shortcuts, tap the ellipse (•••) in the tile of your shortcut and then tap the Settings icon in the top right corner. Tap "Add to Home", touch the Share button at the bottom of the screen, then tap "Add to Home" from the sharing sheet.
Next, choose a name for your Home screen shortcut, then tap Add. "Your shortcut will be added to the home screen and then tap any time an Instagram video URL is copied to launch the downloader.
Shortcuts uses widgets, which means you have another option to run the Instagram Downloader quickly. Tap iPhones with 3D touch screen Just click the shortcuts icon to access the widget (you may need to reorganize the library of shortcuts, as this widget displays only the first four.) If you have saved a URL, tap your shortcut to download yours Videos to start in the background.
Alternatively, you can call the widget from the Today View by clicking on the left of the left Swipe to the right Home screen, Notification center or Lock screen. If the widget does not already exist, touch "Edit" at the bottom of the screen and then tap the green plus next to "Shortcuts."
However you want to do it, this keyboard shortcut is pretty amazing. While download times vary, with longer, higher-quality IGTV videos taking the longest, the shortcut can download all the videos in shockingly short time. An almost 10-minute Daily Show video took 15 seconds to download to our iPhone X S .
Step 4: View Your Downloaded Instagram Videos
Your downloaded Instagram video will be saved directly into the Photos app when Auto-Save is enabled. To view it, just open photos and go to either the Camera Roll album, All Photos, or Videos. Find your video here – edit or share it like any other video.
Part of what makes shortcuts so great is their customizability. Users can tweak keyboard shortcuts as they see fit to meet their iOS needs.
While you can not do much with this acronym, there are three areas: many moving parts You can easily change this link. You can change the name of the shortcut, the destination of your saved videos (and not just the Everything and Videos album) and the text in the notification that appears when a video has successfully downloaded.
Open Shortcuts to change the odd name "SMD 3.5.8". Tap the ellipse (•••) in the upper right corner of the SMD 3.5.8 tile. In the upper right corner of the screen below, touch the Settings icon, and then tap the name of the shortcut in the Name box.
Tap again on the ellipsis (•••) in the toolbar to adjust the other two options at the top right corner of its tile. Now, scroll down the entire shortcut, being careful not to move the pieces until you find "Save to photo album". Here you can tap "All Photos" or "Roll Camera" to select a new file destination. Select a folder from the list or select "Ask When Run" to be prompted when the link is executed.
Directly below the Goal Settings file, you will find "View Notification." Here you can change the text displayed in both the title and the text of the notifications of this link. Just tap on the "Title" field to edit the title, as well as the "Body" field to edit the body. You can also choose whether the notification sounds by changing the "Play Sound" button at the bottom of the box.
