When you first log in to the Netflix app, a dialog box appears that displays the down arrow icon to start a download. More importantly, at the bottom of the pop-up window, you'll find a link to all the movies and shows you can download right now. Choose it! Do not worry if you close the command prompt before reading it. There is a new category [Download] in the search area of the app.

Downloading a show is as easy as clicking the "Download" button and letting the app do the rest. Ideally, you should have a Wi-Fi connection. Alternatively, when browsing the Netflix catalog, you can always search for the download button.

You can set the download quality by opening the menu and calling App Settings and choosing between Standard and High Video Quality . High quality of course takes up more space on your phone.

Android and iOS users have a Smart Downloads setting that automatically deletes episodes you watch and downloads more episodes without you having to do anything.

You can enable the feature by opening (or unchecking) the Netflix app and going to app settings . Next, move the Smart Downloads switch to the On or Off position.

The feature works as a one-in-one-out. If you watch three episodes of a downloaded binge-watch series, Netflix will delete those three episodes the next time you connect to Wi-Fi and download the next three.

If you prefer not to use smart downloads, you can manually manage the downloaded content.

To delete content, select the Downloads tab below, and then tap Manage Show. To remove a single episode, tap the blue icon on the right, and then click Delete Download, or touch the Edit Pencil icon to remove multiple episodes at the same time.

To clear all downloads in one step, go to App Settings and select Delete All Downloads .

Memory

To view and manage your downloaded shows, visit the Settings app and search for downloads. You can see how much space your Netflix apps are using on your device.

The only limitation on the amount of memory Netflix needs is the amount of memory your phone has. In other words, if you have a 128 GB phone, you can use as much of it as you normally want to save binge-watch.

For Android users who have a device with microSD support, you can now use Netflix to save shows to external storage. In the Netflix app, go to App Settings > Download Path . Select your SD card and press the Back button.

Originally released on December 2, 2016.
Update dated February 11, 2019: Updated the new download features for iOS and Android.
