How to Edit a PDF

The everyday PDF format remains a great way to quickly compile and publish electronic information. The hard part comes when you try to change something in the PDF: they are not really meant for editing, and you need special software to optimize the content.

That's why we have the best three options for editing a PDF if you really need to make important changes.

Method 1: Using Adobe Acrobat

  Adobe PDF Edit

The PDF format was created by Adobe, so it makes sense to use Adobe Acrobat apps in PDF editing files. To use this method, you need access to Adobe Document Cloud (DC). If your business / budget already pays for an Adobe subscription, this is not a problem – just go to Acrobat and follow the steps. If you have a one-off PDF project that you really need to work on, you can start a free trial of Adobe DC and get temporary access to the tools you need, without having to invest in long-term costs.

Step 1: In Adobe Acrobat, open the file and open file that you want to edit. The content should be displayed in your Acrobat window.

Step 2: Look for the "Edit PDF" tool, which should be a selection in the right hand selection of tools. Select this option to switch to an interactive mode where you can select the PDF content.

Step 3: Make your changes. You can edit text, search for spelling mistakes, resize most elements (use the Objects tools here), and much more. Background, Link, Header, and other toolsets apply here, so you can edit just about anything you want.

It's also worth noting that Adobe has mobile app versions of this software when you need to work on the go. The app is also one of the best places to print a PDF

Note: If you do not mind paying for a more durable version of the service, prices for the standard version start at $ 15 per month – there is no permanent license option if you want to edit PDFs. There is also a free PDF viewer version of the software with far, much less options if you want to change more PDF content than just.

Method 2: Alternative Apps

Third-party apps offer a variety of fast PDF editing options as an alternative to Adobe Acrobat. They are usually free and can be used or downloaded with a quick detour to your browser.

Although these tools are more limited than Adobe's offering, they are an ideal solution for simplifying editing or editing away from other, more reliable software.

PDFsam

If you want to move PDF pages to create more complex documents, PDFsam is everything you need. It is an extraction tool that allows you to extract and switch all PDF pages within a file or between different PDF files to create the required document. You can split PDFs by bookmark, size, or custom page limit, and rotate pages as needed.

PDFsam's layout is easy for beginners and easy to understand. However, it's all about moving content around your PDFs, which is useful when you publish larger documents and quickly create outbound PDF messages. However, it is not very good if you dive deep and change colors, correct the resolution, correct spelling errors, and so on. There is an enhanced version of the software that adds additional editing features in an additional free download, but this option is more complex and takes longer for newbies to learn. If you're only interested in merging many PDFs together, then look at the best merge software.

PDF Xchange

This free download comes with the PDF-Xchange Editor List of the things you can do with PDF pages – in some ways even more complete than Adobe Acrobat. You can share, merge, edit, spell check, translate into other languages, add comments, and insert external links. The software also includes plug-ins for Javascript engines, file backups, image embedding, custom stamps, working with Google Drive, and a whole host of other features required to purchase an extended license.

In other words, you can probably find the right tool to do exactly what you need for a PDF file. The downside is that it can take a while to learn exactly and locate what you need, especially if you are using the software for the first time.

Sejda online PDF editor

If you do not feel like downloading any particular software for editing a PDFs, online editors like Sejda are perfect. It lets you edit existing text in a PDF, digital signatures, whiteouts, adding images and shapes, and commenting on text.

There are some limitations to the service, such as a maximum of 200 pages of editable PDFs and PDFs larger than 50 MB in size will not be processed. However, if you want additional features, there are subscription packages that open unlimited pages and PDF size, as well as access to the desktop application.

Method 3: Converting the PDF File

The last option is available if you are not happy with PDFs or if you need to do a lot of detail work without learning new apps. Convert the PDF file to another format and edit it in software that is more comfortable or better tailored to your needs. The easiest way to do this is in the word processing application that you already use, whether it's Microsoft Word or Google Docs. While this may do the job, the problem is that PDF conversion can be hit-or-miss, especially in these basic word processing applications. Things like markup, fonts, and formatting can all be different.

We recommend starting with a special PDF converter, such as Able2Extract Professional 11, which allows you to convert PDFs to CSV, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, and even Excel formats in other ways. In addition, when finished, you can convert back to PDF – a slightly safer process than the first conversion step.

  Adobe PDF Export

If you want to convert PDFs, you can also use Adobe Acrobat. With Adobe, you can convert PDFs to Acrobat to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. If possible, this is a good choice, as Adobe's format conversion tends to be more accurate than most others.
