Millions depend on Google Maps, and it's easy to see why. The app has a lot of features like offline navigation, location sharing and more. However, Google is far from finished and is continually improving its navigation app to make it even more efficient and secure.
A popular feature that is now available is provided by the Google Assistant integration, which provides comprehensive voice controls for Google Maps. The benefits of this new feature are obvious, but it is impressive that you do not need to have Google Assistant installed to use this feature.
Step 1: Enable Google Assistant
To enable Google Assistant Open Maps in Maps, then tap the Hamburger icon to the left of the search bar. Select either "Settings" (Android) or click the gear icon in the top right corner of the main menu and tap "Navigation" on the following page (iOS).
On either the navigation page, tap on "OK Google Detection" (Android) or "Access your Assistant on Ok Google" (iOS). If you're using an iPhone, grant the app permission to access your device's microphone to enable the feature. For Android devices, tap "Access with Voice Match". If you do so, you'll be redirected to a separate page to register your voice to the service. Touch "I agree" to continue.
Well, if you work with Android, you need to teach the Google Assistant to recognize your particular voice. That way, you can also use the wizard on Google Maps when the phone is locked. So tap "Turn on" and say "OK Google" twice, followed by "Hey Google" twice. For best results, do it in a quiet place and say the sentences in a loud, clear voice to facilitate recognition. Click "Finish" when you're done.
After successfully setting up Google Assist on Google Maps, you can now issue voice commands to ensure safe driving. Try commands like "when is my next move" or "in which lane should I be?", But you also know that the assistant can help navigate a number of things.
Especially for Android devices, you can open Google Maps by simply calling Google Assistant with a "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" followed by "Navigate to (address)" directly from Your home or lock screen.
For iPhones on the other hand, Google Maps must first be opened to issue voice commands with Google Assistant, as this conflicts with the integration of Siri into the rest of the system. By enabling Google Assistant in the app, you have the ability to access other features in addition to navigation, such as: B. to respond to messages. We will discuss these features separately, so stay tuned.
