Animal Crossing: New Horizons has introduced another seasonal event, and this time around, players can create a variety of DIY fall-themed recipes using acorns and pine cones. Here’s how to join the fun between September and November 2020.
Find acorns and pine cones
Isabelle will inform you of the new seasonal event in her morning announcement. She will point out how to join the new celebrations ̵
Normal hardwood and fruit trees drop acorns, and the tall cedars that were formed in the inaccessible part of your island at the start of the game drop pine cones. Palm trees do not drop acorns or pine cones.
Each tree offers an unlimited amount of materials. However, there is a relatively small chance of finding an acorn or pine cone. If all you get is branches shaking trees, don’t be discouraged – just keep shaking! There is a limited area / room for items to land in. So stop and pick up the fallen branches between the shocks.
Unlike the blue seashells found at the summer event, you don’t have to wait long to bring out more of these craft materials. Instead, you can shake trees as many times as you want to reap the rewards.
Sell your excess acorns and pine cones
If you’re not interested in the DIY fall-themed recipes, or if you’ve made them all and have too many supplies left, Timmy and Tommy buy acorns and pinecones of 200 bells each.
The complete DIY autumn season set is neatly categorized in the DIY Recipes Nook app under the “Seasonal Recipes” menu. The fall-themed DIY recipes require a total of around 35 acorns and 31 grains of pine, and you have three months to collect all of the recipes. DIY recipes that you have a surplus of can also be sold to Timmy and Tommy or given to friends.
Find DIY fall-themed recipes
Isabelle will be handed a DIY recipe for a Free Tree’s Bounty Little Tree in her announcement of the day. After that, it’s up to you to find the rest.
During the multi-month event, players will find seasonal, fall-themed DIY recipes that use acorns and pine cones to make furniture and accessories. These DIY recipes can only be found by shooting off balloons with your slingshot.
Unfortunately, there is no way to control exactly what a balloon drops.
To make popping the balloon a little easier, look up at the sky by tilting up the analog stick on your right Joy-Con controller. Balloons fly over your island from right to left. At 6 p.m. local time the wind reverses and balloons fly in the opposite direction over your island. If you stand on the beach with your camera up, you can shoot the balloons as soon as they fly in.
