Networking events are a must for anyone with entrepreneurial dreams and contacts in their industry. To get the most out of the next event you visit, here are some preparation tips.
Bring Your Business Cards Together
Business cards are a must when you attend a networking event. You want to give people a way to remember you and to remember you. Always bring a few more business cards with you than you think necessary.
Depending on the type of business you are working in, you may want to bring brochures explaining the services or products you are offering. If you are looking for your next employer, you should bring one or two CV's.
Dress for Success
While networking events appear in bars such as casual affairs, you may want to dress up the business professional that you are (or want to be). You do not have to dress formally, but professional or business casual wear shows people that you are serious about making professional connections.
Practice what you want to say to the people you meet. Your looks and actions will tell a lot about your professionalism.
Think of a plan.
Before you go to the networking event, think about what you want to do while you're there. Are you working to expand your business or market a new business? Are you looking for a business partner, employee or new customer?
Business networking events are also a great place to pick up new ideas from other professionals and get honest feedback.
Maybe I do not want to have a spiral notebook with me, especially if you travel most of the night. Sometimes you may also want to take notes if you have a good idea or if someone gives you interesting information that you would like to examine later. If you have a smartphone, you can use your "Notes" app to write things you want to remember. You can also bring along a small notebook and pen that will fit easily in a bag or purse.
