How to install Nvidia G-Sync on your unsupported FreeSync monitor

If you want smooth, non-cracking gameplay and want to experience the high frame rates of your Nvidia graphics card, Nvidia's G-Sync adaptive G-Sync technology, which triggers the best performance of your card, is a feature you use can. I want in your next monitor.

To use this feature, you can spend a lot of money with a built-in G-Sync device on a monitor, such as the Acer Predator X27 ($ 1,999) or a FreeSync monitor with software G-Sync compatibility updates. (Currently, 15 monitors support the upgrade.)

However, there are still hundreds of FreeSync models that will probably never receive this feature. According to Nvidia, "Not all monitors undergo a formal certification process, the quality of the display windows varies, and there may be other issues that prevent gamers from gaining a significantly improved experience."

But even if you have an unsupported monitor, this may be the case. G-Sync may be enabled. You can even have a good experience ̵

1; first. I tested G-Sync with two unsupported models, and unfortunately the results were not consistent enough to recommend them to a supported monitor.

The 32-inch AOC CQ32G1-curved game monitor, available for example at $ 399, initially had no problems when I Apex Legends and Metro: Exodus played. Flicker was displayed during the game, although I did not make any changes to the visual settings. I also tested it with Yakuza 0, which surprisingly gave the worst performance, though it's the least challenging title I tested. Whether in full-screen mode or in windowed mode, the frame rate was choppy.

Another unsupported monitor, the $ 550 Asus MG279Q, handled both Metro: Exodus and Forza Horizon 4 ] without recognizable problems. (The MG279Q is a bit confusing for the Asus MG278Q, which is on Nvidia's list of supported FreeSync models.) Nvidia's G-Sync benchmark was badly prone early, but I could not recreate it.

If you want to try G-Sync with an unsupported monitor, do the following: 19659010 Before you begin, consider the following to get the highest frame rates, with or without G. -Sync is on, you need to Use the DisplayPort cable. If you're using a FreeSync monitor, chances are it came with a FreeSync monitor. If not, they are not too expensive.

Using G-Sync with an Unsupported FreeSync Monitor

Download the latest driver for your GPU and install it either through the Nvidia Web site or through the GeForce Experience, Nvidia Windows program 10 app that can adjust graphic settings at the game level. All Nvidia drivers since mid-January 2019 provide G-Sync support for selected FreeSync monitors. Even if you do not have a supported monitor, you may be able to enable G-Sync as soon as you have the latest driver installed. If this works well after you have enabled the feature is another question.

After installing the driver, open the Nvidia Control Panel. In the page column, you will see a new entry: Setting up G-Sync. (If you do not see this setting, turn on FreeSync from the screen of your monitor, and if you still can not see it, you may not be lucky.)

Check the "Enable G" box. Sync Compatible. Then click "Apply" to activate the settings. (The settings page informs you that your monitor has not been validated by Nvidia for G-Sync, as you already know that this is the case, do not worry.)

Check if the resolution and refresh rate are set to Select "Change Resolution" in the page column. Set the resolution and refresh rate to the highest possible option (the latter is hopefully at least 144 Hz if you've spent hundreds on your game monitor.)

Nvidia offers a downloadable G-Sync benchmark that's easy to enforce They know if things work as intended. When G-Sync is active, the animation should show no tearing or stuttering. However, since you are using an unsupported monitor, do not be surprised if you see some questionable results. Next, try some of your favorite games. If something is wrong, you will notice it quickly.

There's a good resource in Reddit, where the PC community has created a large list of unsupported FreeSync monitors, documenting the pros and cons of each monitor when the G-Sync is turned on. These real-world insights are enlightening, but what you experience depends on your PC configuration and the games you play.
