How to land Israel's Beresheet on the Moon this week

SpaceIL's Beresheet probe has picked up this view of the Moon.

The Moon is within reach of the Israeli Beresheet mission. The privately funded SpaceIL probe is currently orbiting our moon neighbors and preparing for a soft landing on Thursday. SpaceIL and Israel Aerospace Industries will be broadcast live from the mission control room.

Contact Global Broadcasting Services hosts the landing page for the video feed. SpaceIL has a landing approach time around noon on Thursday, which would bring the landing late into the evening. We can expect a more accurate schedule as the event draws closer.

Beresheet completed the delicate operation of which had entered lunar orbit last week and prepared the stage for a historic landing in the Sea of Tranquility. SpaceIL may become the first private non-governmental group to set up a landing area on the lunar surface.

The mission launched on 21

February on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and survived a technical failure to get where it is now.

The lander is equipped with cameras to document the lunar surface and measures the magnetic field of the moon. Beresheet carries not only scientific equipment, but also a time capsule .

If the lander succeeds, there will already be active society. China is currently with a lander and rover on the mysterious opposite side. Israel would then join the United States, the Soviet Union and China as the first country to successfully land a mission on the moon. This is a moment worth seeing.
