Most Android phones have wrong volume controls. A big vocal part of the Android community wants the default settings of the volume buttons to be the volume of the media, not the ringtone. Although the Galaxy Note 9 is in the "wrong" warehouse, Samsung has several options to change it.
We found three ways to control the volume keys on the Galaxy Note 9 as standard media. In other words, there's no need to wait for the system to detect that the media is playing – the buttons just adjust the media volume each time. All three are very simple, but the impact of this small change is far from small and is one of the reasons why Samsung is so popular.
: Change the Settings
The easiest way is correct the settings menu of your phone. Open the settings menu and select "Sounds and Vibration". Turn on the Shift key next to "Use media volume keys" to change the default action.
Method 2: Change the volume menu
Another simple method is hidden in the volume menu. Press the volume rocker to set the ringtone. Select the down arrow on the right side of the slider to expand the menu. At the bottom of the Volume menu, the option "Use volume keys for media" is displayed. Enable this option to change the default volume control function.
The third method uses a versatile app developed by Samsung itself. Download the SoundAssistant app from the Google Play Store – free and useful to not only change the default action of the volume rocker, but increases the number of steps from mute to maximum volume.
Open the app and select the "Control Media Volume" option. This will also change the volume control to Media Control by default.
When you press the volume rocker, you can use one of the three methods to adjust the media volume first. You no longer have to be in a video or listen to a song to manage its volume. To access the ringtone or notification volume, you must first expand the volume menu and then adjust the slider.
While most Android phones require a workaround or have to wait for Android 9.0 Pie, the Galaxy Note 9 may already be switching its default action. What do you think about Samsung including the options in the settings? Let us know in the comments below.
