Not all emails are worth reading. Some you can block, some you can’t. Use this trick to quickly mark emails as read without opening them in Gmail.
How to mark email as read in Gmail on the web
If you’re using the Gmail website on your Windows or Mac computer, you can mark all or individual emails as read.
To mark an individual email as read, move the mouse pointer over the email from your inbox and select the “Envelope”
The email will now be hidden and the number of your unread emails will decrease.
To mark several e-mails as read, use the selection tool on the left edge of the e-mail list. Click the check mark icon for any email that you want to mark as read.
If you want to mark all e-mails displayed on the screen as read, click the checkmark icon in the top toolbar. All emails on the current page are selected. Use the “Select All Conversations” option to select all the conversations in the Inbox or Category.
After making your selection, click the “Mark as Read” button on the top toolbar. This will mark all selected emails as read.
To mark e-mails as unread, you can select the e-mails and click the “Mark as unread” button in the toolbar.
How to mark emails as read in Gmail for iPhone and Android
The Gmail app makes it incredibly quick and easy to mark emails as read right from your inbox. It’s the same method for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
Open the Gmail app and navigate to your inbox. Then, tap the sender’s photo to receive an email that you want to mark as read. You can select multiple emails in the same way.
With email selected, tap the Envelope icon on the top toolbar.
The emails are now marked as read.
If you want to mark emails as unread, select the emails again and tap the same envelope icon.
