Nest users can now migrate their account to Google. This allows a more secure sign-in process and better integration with Google Assistant, but excludes most third-party integrations. Since there are more disadvantages than advantages, we recommend to wait.
Why you should wait for the change
When Google announced its plans for account migration, it also stated that the company would eventually kill the plants with Nest's program. This change would require services to switch to the Works with Google Assistant program.
The main problem with this transition is that most services would lose direct access to Nest Products. As a result, users would have to set up routines that might not work as before.
The only caveat is when you use Amazon smart devices with your Nest products. Google has indicated that it works with Amazon to ensure that Alexa retains all integrations.
If you're not worried about losing third-party integrations with your Nest devices, continue to the next section.

Migrate Your Nest Account to a Google Account

Note: Migrating your Nest account to Google is not reversible . Once you confirm the switch, you will not be able to use your Nest login.
First, open the Nest app on your device or visit the Nest website and make sure you're signed in. Then select the gear icon at the top right of the screen to enter the settings menu. If you are on the Internet, you must click on your avatar and then select "Settings".
Next, select "Account" at the top of the Settings menu.
If you are running version 5.38 of the mobile app or later, the "Migrate to a Google Account" option should appear near the top of the list. Click on it.
Now, you'll see some benefits of migrating your Nest products to Google. These include a secure account, seamless product integrations, and better control over your data. To continue, select "Continue with Google."
Select which Google Account you want to use to migrate your Nest account. If your account does not appear, select "Use a different account" and sign in.

Lastly, Google will ask you to provide the marketing and service related emails you want to receive. These include Google Store Promotions, Google Hardware and Nest Home Report.
This should be done. Google reminds you that after you migrate, you'll be signing into your Nest app with your Google Account. Plus, your Nest products can now be fully integrated with Google's other Smarthome products.
Click Done to return to the Nest splash screen.
Your Nest account has now been migrated to Google. If you sign in to your account in the future, you'll need to authenticate with your Google username and password.
Keep in mind that Amazon integrations should continue to work with your Nest products, but other third party services such as IFTTT may be broken. Check the Google Home app for integrations for your Nest products.
