How to mount your Nest Mini on the wall

The Nest Mini adds a wall mount on the back of the device the Home Mini did not have.

The Nest Mini is the reasonably priced, second-generation smart speaker from Google. It enhances the Google Home Mini with better sound, helpful LED instructions for integrated volume control, and machine learning technology. The two look almost identical, except for a new external feature. The Nest Mini has a built-in wall mount.

I'm not convinced that installing a Nest Mini on your wall is the most aesthetic way to display this speaker. The long white cable is hard to hide, and the speaker is so small that it does not save as much space when I take it off my counter. However, if you are inclined to position your smart speakers vertically, Google has simplified the use of this second-generation model.

Select the right location

You may already know exactly where you want to hang your Nest Mini. If not, choose a location near a power outlet and within range of your Wi-Fi network. Consider pets, housemates, kids, and anything else that could come into contact with the speaker and its cable.

<h2> Setting Up Your Nest Mini </h2>
<p> Before hanging up your Nest Mini, Google recommends setting up and testing it in this section. Get your speaker ready and test the features you use most often, especially if it is to be mounted in a hard-to-reach location. </p>
<p> It's also a good idea to make sure that you can see it from the key places in this room or area and that you like what it looks like. </p>
<p> Once your Nest Mini is set up and you are satisfied with its placement and performance, you can install it. </p><div><script async src=

Measure and install the screw.

Just as with hanging a picture, it's a good idea to measure where you put the screw in your wall. Try centering it on a wall or between other objects to get a clean, symmetrical look.

Google recommends a No. 8 Allen head screw. If you screw into the drywall and not into the masonry posts, you can use an anchor. Follow the instructions for the anchor pack to make it sit against the wall.

Use a screwdriver or drill to screw the screw into the wall or wall anchor, and allow at least 2mm of the screw to protrude to hold the Nest Mini.

Now you can hang your Nest Mini on the wall. Using the screw slot on the back of the speaker, gently insert the speaker into the screw head and gently secure it. I found it easier to hang the speaker alone and then reconnect the power cord.

Reversing Device Control

This last step is an important touch control setting. Once your Nest Mini is against the wall, the volume controls are opposite the normal horizontal position.

You can turn the volume controls so the volume is still increasing to the right and the volume is still left.

This is how Google explains the steps to reverse device controls on its website.

. 1 Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Google Nest Mini.

. 2 Open the Google Home app.

. 3 On the Home tab, tap the Nest Mini device that you want to customize.

. 4 At the top right of the device card, touch Settings .

. 5 Under Invert Device Control, tap the checkbox or tap the slider to turn it on.

Now that your Nest Mini is wall-mounted, you can use it for anything you would use your smart speaker for anywhere else. From timers to music to general questions, you can give a lot of help to your Google Assistant .
