First you need to back up your Fortnite folder. Fornite is installed by default in
C: Program Files Epic Games Fortnite so you'll probably find it there. Navigate to this folder in an Explorer window.
Right-click on the "Fortnite" folder and select "Copy" to copy it to the clipboard.
Add a copy of the Fortnite folder to another location. For example, if you want to move Fortnite from your C: drive to your D: drive, you can paste it into your D: drive. If you want to move Fortnite from one PC to another, insert the Fortnite folder on an external USB drive.
Do not immediately copy the Fortnite folder to the desired location. For example, if you want to install Fortnite on D: Epic Games Fortnite, do not copy the folder there immediately. Instead, consider copying it first to D: Temporary Fortnite.
Wait for the file copy operation to complete before proceeding.
If your backup copy of Fortnite files is securely stored in a different location, you can now uninstall Fortnite from its original location.
This step is required only if you want to remove Fortnite from its current location – for example, if you want to move Fortnite to another drive on your PC. If you only want to copy the Fortnite installation files to another PC, you can skip this step.
To uninstall Fortnite from your PC, open the Epic Games Launcher application. In the left pane, select your library, click the adjustment gear in the Fortnite thumbnail, and choose Uninstall.
Click "Uninstall" to confirm. This will remove the Fortnite files from their original location.
Start the installation of Fortnite in the new location
Next, start a normal Fortnite installation. In the Epic Games Launcher application, select your library and click the "Install" button for Fortnite.
If you are upgrading Fortnite to a new PC, download the Epic Games Launcher, install it, log in with your user account, and then start the installation of Fortnite.
Select the desired installation location and click "Install". For example, if you want to move Fortnite to D: Epic Games Fortnite, select that location. If you only want to install Fortnite on a new PC in the normal C: drive location, leave the default option selected.
You must select an empty folder here. If you try to target the launcher to an existing Fortnite folder, an error message will be displayed.
Cancel the Download and Close the Launcher
The Epic Games Launcher will download Fortnite. Wait for the initialization process to complete. When the text "Installation" appears, click on the "X" under Fortnite to cancel the download.
Close the Epic Games Launcher window by clicking on the "X" in the upper right corner of the window.
Transfer your Fortnite backup to the new download location.
You now have a new, largely empty Fortnite folder in the new download location. For example, if you started installing Fortnite at D: Epic Games Fortnite, you have a folder there.
Move or copy the Fortnite backup folder to the new root folder. In this example, we moved the Fortnite backup folder to D: Epic Games. The contents of the old Fortnite folder are merged with the contents of the new Fortnite folder.
If you are aware that files with the same name exist, click Replace Files on Destination. This overwrites the incomplete download files with the files of your backup.
Restart the launcher and continue with the installation.
They are almost done. Reopen the Epic Games Launcher and click the Resume option under Fortnite.
The Epic Games Launcher searches the Fortnite directory, recognizes that you already have the files, and skips downloading. The progress bar for the review will slowly increase as the Epic Games Launcher checks if all files are present and not damaged. This is not a download.
If problems are found, the status changes to Download, and the launcher downloads replacement for missing, outdated, corrupted files.
Fortnite is now installed in the new location and can be played immediately.
You can back up your Fortnite game files to an external USB drive and use this method to quickly install Fortnite on a new PC great download. The launcher must continue to download any updates released since the backup was created. Therefore, you may want to refresh regularly.
