Are you tired of your current podcast app? If so, switch to a new one. Thanks to OPML files, you can do this in a few minutes.
For this to work, however, the podcast app must support the import / export of OPML files. If this is not the case, you will need to manually subscribe to all your podcasts one at a time, which can be time-consuming.
Fortunately, most podcast apps for Android support this feature, including Pocket Casts and BeyondPod, Castbox, Podcast Addict, Podcast Player and many others. However, there are a few popular apps that do not support OPML broadcasting, including Google's own podcast app and stitcher.
Let's go step by step through podcasting from one app to another, so you can see exactly how it's done becomes. In this example I will move my podcast from Castbox to Podcast Addict. But do not worry, the process is the same for most other apps, with a few minor differences that we'll deal with later.
First, launch the Castbox app on your phone and select the "Personal" tab in the bottom menu bar. Then open "Settings", scroll down, search for the "OPML Export" option and tap it. The OPML file will now automatically be downloaded to your phone.
Next you need to import the OPML file into the new app – in this case Podcast Addict. Open the app on your phone and select "Backup / Recover OPML file". Alternatively, you can find the same option in the settings menu.
The easiest way to find and upload the OPML file is to tap the icon in the top right corner (three vertical dots) and then select "Device download folder" – In this folder the OPML file was saved. Then tap the file you want to import, select any podcasts you want to transfer, and the app will do the rest. After a minute or two, all of your podcasts will appear in the app's podcasts section.
Note that while this method is quick and easy, it is downloaded only through your subscriptions and not through the podcasts you are using. The new app also does not show which podcasts you have already listened to.
As mentioned previously, the process is more or less the same for other podcast apps. You must first export the OPML file from your current app and upload it to the new app. Both options are in most apps in the settings menu. Note, however, that some apps automatically transfer the OPML file to your device's download folder, while other applications only allow it to be saved in a cloud service such as Dropbox and Google Drive. You'll need to remember where to save the file so you can find it when you upload it to the new podcast app.
