You either use Bixby, the Samsung Virtual Assistant, or you do not. In the latter case, you might be wondering what to do with the dedicated Bixby Key on the side of mobile phones like the Galaxy S1
The button reassignment should work on one of the following phones:
Go to the Galaxy Store app found in the App Drawer, and tap the triple-dot icon in the upper-right corner. Go to My Page, and click Update . If you can not reassign the Bixby button, an update should be available for download here.
Remap Bixby Keys
The Bixby key still opens Bixby in one way or another. With the update, you only have the option to start another app from a single operation (then Bixby is opened by pressing twice) or by pressing twice (by pressing Bixby once). Pressing and holding the button also starts Bixby's walkie talkie mode. Unfortunately, there's no native way to use the Google Assistant open button, but we'll use it in a second.
If you have the update, go to Settings> Advanced Features> Bixby Key . We recommend to vote to open Bixby twice. This means that you only need to tap the button once to start another app. Tap Press once and then tap the gear icon next to Open App . Find the app you want to launch – it may even be the camera – and select it. That's it! You have successfully reassigned the Bixby key.
You can also see the option to trigger a Quick Command when you tap the Bixby button. The quick commands allow you to trigger a series of actions on your phone when you say a sentence. For example, if you say "I drive," you can turn off Wi-Fi on your phone, turn on Bluetooth, and play a "commute" playlist if you have one. If you attach a quick command to the Bixby Key, you no longer have to say it out loud and instead you can only press the key. If you have the chance to accidentally press the Bixby button, you can also use this function as a print instead.
To re-assign the Bixby button, open the Google Assistant
if you use Google Assistant, you can start it with the dedicated button instead of pressing the Home button. There is one way to do this, but it requires a third-party app (which can always be a problem in terms of security). The app and instructions come from XDA developers.
We recommend first navigating to Settings> Biometrics and Security> Install Unknown Apps and tap Chrome or Samsung Internet . – whatever your default browser is. Switch to Allow from this source . You can change this later, but this allows the browser to download unidentified files. This is required if you want to start Google Assistant with the Bixby key.
Now go to this link and download the Bixby Remapper APK from XDA. We tried this on several phones, and the process worked smoothly. Follow the instructions to download and then install the app.
After installation go back to Settings> Advanced Features> Bixby Key . Type Press once and then the gear icon next to . Open app. Now looking for an app named Bixby Button Assistant Remapper . That's it.
Press the Bixby button and you should open Google Assistant or Bixby (or Google Assistant will start automatically). Tap on Google Assistant and then on Always to make sure this is the case Always open Google's AI
Now you can start Google Assistant with the Bixby key.
