How to remember where you parked with the Google Assistant

There is nothing like the frustration of forgetting where you parked. Fortunately, if you have an iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone with the Google Assistant installed, you can find your vehicle quickly!

The wide variety of solutions available can help you understand how common this problem is. The best is the one that requires very little effort. As long as you have the Google Assistant on your Android device, iPhone, or iPad and have it with you when parking, this method works.

Google Assistant for Android

The first thing you need to do on your Android device is to make sure that the Google Assistant can access your location. Swipe down from the top of your phone or tablet (once or twice depending on the model), then tap the gear icon to open the Settings menu.

Then tap on “Location”.

Make sure “Use location” is checked.

As soon as this is no longer possible, you can now use the parking function. The first thing you need to do is open the Google Assistant in one of the following ways:

  • Say “Okay, Google” or “Hey, Google”.
  • On newer devices with Android 10 and higher, swipe in from the bottom left or right.

With the Google Assistant open and listening, you can do one of the following commands:

  • “I’ve parked here.”
  • “Remember where I parked.”

To get back to your car later, open the Google Assistant again and type one of the following commands:

  • “Where is my car?”
  • “Where did I park?”
  • “Find the location of my car.”

Google saves your parking space for 24 hours. If you want to remove it sooner, just tell the Google Assistant, “Forget where I parked”.

Google Assistant for iPhone and iPad

Before you can use the Google Assistant on your iPhone or iPad, make sure that “Location Services” is turned on. On your device, tap Settings.

Go to Privacy> Location Services.

Make sure Location Services is turned on.

Next, open the Google Assistant app.

Tap

From there, say “Okay, Google” or tap the microphone icon. With the Google Assistant listening, you can do one of the following commands:

  • “I parked here.”
  • “Remember where I parked.”

When you’re ready to get back to your vehicle, open the “Google Assistant” again. Then say one of the following commands:

  • “Where is my car?”
  • “Where did I park?”
  • “Find the location of my car”
