Samsung has reintroduced its proven Good Lock app so you can now optimize parts of your Galaxy interface without the need for root or other labor-intensive mods. With a great add-on, you can even clean up your phone's status bar – so if you ever wanted to get rid of the annoying NFC "N" icon or any other indicator on the top of your screen, it's just a few taps away.
QuickStar is the add-on app used in conjunction with Good Lock to give you the ability to optimize many system settings in the TouchWiz interface of your phone. The most important is a nice feature that lets you remove any icon from your status bar to make it look cleaner.
: Install Good Lock
Note that Good Lock and QuickStar only work on Galaxy devices running Android 8.0 Oreo. When your phone is updated, you need to install Good Lock to get started. So go to the Galaxy Apps Store (you'll find it in your app drawer), search for and install Good Lock. For more information, see our complete Good Lock tutorial.
Next, open Good Lock and choose "QuickStar" from the main menu. By doing so, you will be taken directly to the QuickStar download page in the Galaxy Apps Store, so click on "Install" to activate the add-on.
Step 3: Customize the status bar Now go back to Good Lock and tap on "QuickStar" then select "Simple Indicator" on the following page. Then tap the switch directly under Simple Display to turn it on.
When simple viewing is enabled, just tap the buttons next to the ads you want to turn off – NFC, Alarm, Battery, and soon. Finish Good Lock when you're done and enjoy your new, clear status bar.
QuickStar can disable more than just the status bar icons – you can customize the entire Quick Settings panel and add functionality to your notifications. So poke around and see if there's anything else you like while you open the app.
Good Lock makes it easy for Samsung to personalize our Galaxy devices in a flash – features like these were previously only available with custom ROMs or rooted users. As always, let us know how you enjoy QuickStar by posting in the comments section below.
