The Skype app included with Windows 10 now has a notification area icon. That's great, but you can not just right-click on the Skype system tray icon and close it like a traditional desktop app. Skype does not offer an exit option.
Microsoft's modern Skype app does not even appear in your list of launcher programs. So you can not disable it by managing your launcher programs through the App Settings or the Task Manager
You can, however, hide the icon in the Skype Settings window. In the notification area, right-click the Skype icon, click Settings, or open the Skype window, click the menu button, and then click Preferences.
Click the General category and uncheck the "Show Skype in the Windows notification area (taskbar)" option. The Skype notification area icon disappears.
Please note that people can continue to send Skype messages when you are logged in, even if Skype is not displayed in the notification area. To stop this, log out of Skype. Click on the "…" menu in the Skype window and click on "Log out".
If you do not want to use Skype at all, you can also uninstall it. Search for the Skype shortcut in your Start menu, right-click on it and choose "Uninstall". With Windows 10, you can also uninstall many other built-in apps this way.
If you have more than one Skype application installed and only you If you want to remove the integrated Windows 10 version, search for and remove the Skype shortcut that is marked as the Trusted Microsoft Store App.
The traditional Skype desktop application has a "Quit Skype". This option is available when you right-click the notification area icon. This version of Skype works like the standard Skype client you are used to.
This is quite confusing, as Skype's built-in store version and the modern desktop version are almost the same, but the desktop version of Skype offers more features.
