Here’s how to reset each type.
First generation Amazon Echo (and Dot): Find the reset to default Button on the bottom of the echo speaker. Then use the end of a paper clip to press and hold the button for 5 seconds. The ring of light on the device will turn orange and rotate, indicating that it has been properly reset.
Second Generation Amazon Echo (and Dot): This Echo speaker doesn’t have a reset button – all you have to do is hold down the button Microphone off and Volume down Keys until the light ring turns orange. This usually takes about 20 seconds. The ring of light will turn on and off with a rotating orange light, which means it has been reset.
Third Generation Amazon Echo (and Dot): On this device you just have to press the action Button. It’s the button with the dot in the middle. Press and hold the button for 25 seconds or until the light ring pulses with a rotating orange light to indicate that it has been reset.
Amazon Echo Studio: As with the second generation Echo, you need to hold down the button Microphone off and Volume down Press the buttons for approx. 20 seconds until the light ring flashes orange. When the light ring is switched off and on again, the reset is complete.
Amazon Echo Flex: The Echo Flex only has two buttons and no reset button. Press and hold the button to restore the factory settings action Press the button for only 20 seconds until the light flashes orange, then switch it off and on again.
Amazon Echo Show (all three versions): Echo Show devices can be reset in their settings menus. The easiest way to reset them is to hold down both buttons Mute and Volume down Press the buttons for about 15 seconds until the Amazon logo is displayed on the screen.
Note that you should only reset your device when you are no longer using it or as a last-ditch effort in troubleshooting the device. A factory reset will completely erase your data. If you areIf this doesn’t work properly, you should try restarting it first by unplugging it from the wall and then plugging it back in to see if a soft reset fixes your problem.
