As intuitive as Google Maps is for finding the best routes, you'll never be able to select departure and arrival times in the mobile app. This feature has been available for a long time on the desktop site. So you can see what traffic should look like at a given time and how long your hard drive would take at some point in the future. Fortunately, Google has finally added this feature to the app for iPhone and Android.
To try this out, you need to update your Google Maps app. You can do this with the links below. If you do so, you can plan in advance by setting your arrival and / or departure times. This is ideal to see when you need to leave if you want to get to your destination at a certain time.

Setting Departure or Arrival Times
Planning a trip by the time you want to leave or arrive at a desired location can not be easier with Google Maps ̵
Then select the best route a from the given selection. From there, tap the three-dot menu button in the upper-right corner and press "Set departure & arrival time" (Android) or "Set reminder exit" (iOS) at the prompt.
Now you can both set the time and date you want to start your departure, or touch the "Arrivals" tab in the upper right corner and set the time and date in the same way if you are on a specific date Time to arrive. Click "Set" when done, and Google Maps will display the average travel time for the route and either an ETA (if you chose the first route) or a recommended departure time if you chose the last route.
As practical as this new feature is, so it pays to note restrictions. Google Maps does not currently notify you of a notification when you set a departure time. In addition, traffic conditions are not updated in real time, so arrival times can vary and can change drastically due to unforeseen events such as traffic accidents and sudden weather conditions.
