This weekstarted a new feature for Messenger users that makes it easier to follow conversational threads.
Message responses or quoted answers behave exactly as the name suggests. Instead of jumping into a conversation and responding to a message sent earlier in the day without context, a quoted answer shows what you're talking about. As you can imagine, this is certainly useful for a group discussion.
Quoted responses are available in the mobile app and through the website, both on the dedicated messenger website and on Facebook.
To use it on your phone, open a conversation and then press or swipe left or right in a balloon. A long press displays a response arrow – tap it. Swiping the message instantly generates a quoted answer. A new message will be created in the text box. The top part of the message will either contain the text of the message quoted or a link that will allow you to return to the quoted photos, links or videos. Enter your message, click Submit and you're done.
On the Internet, you can either click the answer arrow that appears next to the message when you hover over it, or click the three-dot button next to the message and then select the answer arrow.
