Thanks to iOS 12, we received a number of Welcome to Face ID enhancements, the face recognition option available on the iPhone X and later models. However, one of the best improvements has been the addition of an "alternative look" or the ability to program a second face for your iPhone to recognize.
This is an incredibly useful new option, whether you want to make sure a mistress can open and use your phone, or just let your iPhone with goggles or work equipment recognize (some Face ID gets better, but it can still be one Be a challenge). We'll show you how to set up an alternate look for Face ID with just a few minutes of work.
Step 1: Navigate to Face ID & Passcode
Choose a spot with good lighting and no potential glare, and unlock your iPhone. Go to Settings (gear icon) and look in the settings menu until you get to Face ID & Passcode . Choose it.
Step 2: Start the Alternate Viewing Process
At this point, you probably need to enter your passcode to continue. After signing up for Face ID & Passcode, you should see options for enabling Face ID App Store purchases, Apple Pay, Password Autofill and other options. It's worth checking these options to make sure they're on or off, especially if you're adding a second person to Face ID.
When you are ready, look under the option to activate and you will see the option to Setting up an alternate look . Select this to get started.
Note: This assumes that you have already set up your first face recognition and passcode. If you have not set up the face ID yet, the option " Set Face ID " will be displayed. You must select them first. If you have not yet set up a passcode, you will be prompted to create a passcode when opening the face ID and passcode. We recommend creating a password because a reliable second method to unlock the phone is useful, especially if the camera malfunctions.
Step 3: Scan Face
Now you need to scan the alternate face. Whether this is a beloved or just you with some darkening clothes, get ready. A face portrait appears and your iPhone instructs you to move your face in a circle to properly calibrate the sensor. Do this until the iPhone is satisfied and announce that the face scan is complete.
If you have problems with this process, remember that your face needs to be centered and your iPhone should not be angled. You may need to find better lighting or reset your position to improve the scan. It usually takes a few circles to complete the scan.
When you're done, you're done. The iPhone face ID now looks for both face records and unlocks for both faces. You can test the feature immediately to make sure it works.
Step 4: Replace Your Alternate Appearance If Needed
Now, when you go face to face ID & Password, you only see one option "Reset Face ID" that has replaced the alternate presentation. Be careful when choosing this option: It will erase all your face ID data and prompt you to scan two new faces one at a time. However, it is also the only way to get rid of an alternative appearance and replace it. Make sure both faces you want to read are ready when you click Reset.
