Most of us have had an address book connected to the cloud for years. The result is an ever-growing list of contacts whose navigation and management are becoming increasingly difficult. As our contact lists grow in size, it's becoming increasingly important to sort contacts the way we work best.
Surnames are more specific than first names. In my contact list I have many Joes and Chrises. An easy way to combat the stack of joes that appears when I run the & # 39; J & # 39; in my address book, is sorting by last name instead. Alternatively, your primary device might be a work phone and you think of people with their last name. Or maybe you're an OG like my grandmother and prefer to organize your address book by last name. Either way, that's easy.
Sort contacts by last name
Open the Contacts app, tap the hamburger button (three lines) in the top left corner, and choose Preferences. Now touch the "Sort by" button. This will bring up a pop-up window where you can choose how to sort your contact list. Select "Last Name".
When you return to the Contacts app, your contacts are now sorted by each person's last name. If a contact does not include a last name in the information, its first name is indexed instead. Joe will continue to appear in category "J" until you add his last name.
