Disable Auto-Renewal of Apple News + Before the Trial Ends

There are several ways to cancel the auto-renewal process. The first method below is the fastest and easiest option, so I would do that. However, you can still use the second, especially if you want to see what other subscriptions are associated with your Apple ID, such as Apple Music, Netflix, or any other service.

Method 1: Cancel the Messages App

In the Messaging app, open the Follow tab, and then scroll all the way down. Tap Manage Subscriptions and select Cancel Free Trial on the Edit Subscription page. You will be asked to confirm that you are losing access to all magazines. Cancellation is possible immediately, even if you still have time to cancel your probationary period, you will not cancel it. Do it the day before the expiration date, if you want to experience the full month before the end of the expiration.

Method 2: Cancel the Apple ID Settings

This is the longer method that still works and the setting allows you to see all of your Apple ID subscriptions, not just News +. You can access your account settings which contains the list of your subscriptions, in several ways, so just select the option below that you like the most iTunes & App Store -> Your Apple ID -> Apple Display ID

  • Settings -> iTunes & App Store -> Your Apple ID -> Show Apple ID
  • App Store -> Your Profile Picture -> Your Name -> Show Apple ID
  • iTunes Store -> Your Apple ID (below) -> Show Apple ID
  • If you selected "Show Apple ID", you must either enter your passcode or use the Face ID or Touch ID to continue. On the Account Settings page, scroll down and select "Subscriptions." Then tap Apple News in the list of active subscriptions. You can also see all the other subs that you have here if you need to do a spring cleaning job on your digital wallet.

Now, as in Method 1, tap "Cancel Free Trial" and then tap "Confirm" pop-up. The popup warns you that you are losing access to all magazines. This is possible immediately. So if you want to get the most out of your free trial, you'll need to cancel the day before the expiration date. Once canceled, you can only view News + magazines once more by subscribing to the $ 9.99 monthly fee.

While you could cancel a free trial of Apple Music right after you signed up, Apple News + does not. and it's probably a rule that has been implemented and agreed by all publishers to prevent users from getting out before they have to pay.
