Echo Buttons are simple Bluetooth devices that connect to an Amazon Echo. So far, they have been referenced to simple, buzzy keys for use in games. Recently, Amazon has added the ability to combine an echo button with a routine, opening up a whole world of possibilities. A simple, direct use is to lock the button when the last person leaves the house.
To create a routine for an echo button, you must first pair that button with an echo. This is a quick and painless process. If you previously created a routine with your Alexa app, you'll be in a familiar area and create a lockout routine for your button. Basically, this is a key that briefly presses the last person leaving the house to turn off all the smart lights, close the doors, shut down the thermostat, disable the smart plugs or whatever you want.
Creating a Button Routine
You must start the Alexa app to create a routine. On the main page of the app, tap the "Hamburger" button.
In the list of settings, tap the "Routines" option.
Tap a new routine to add to the "+" button.
Tap the "When this happens" option to set a trigger for the routine.
Tap the "Echo Button" option.
When prompted, press the Echo button that you want to use with the routine. This is a necessary step, as you can have multiple echo buttons paired with a single echo. After pressing the Echo button and making sure the Alexa app recognizes it correctly, tap the Add button in the Alexa app.
Now that you've selected the button as the trigger, you can set actions for that trigger. Touch the "Add action" option.
Select the smart devices you want to connect to the routine. By creating groups for lights, locks, and other smart devices, you can reduce the number of devices you can add. You can even use a combination of groups and single devices. For example, you could turn off most lights but leave a particular light on, such as B. on the veranda or in the room of an animal.
Once you've set up your devices, click the "Create" button.
Pressing the Echo button will turn off the lights, lock the doors, and control all other equipment you specify. Simply place the Echo button in a location that you can easily press on the way out of your home.
