How to update the software of Apple HomePod?

In parallel with iOS 11.4 Apple released AudioOS 11.4 on Thursday, an updated version of the software that drives the company's smart speaker. The latest update adds AirPlay 2 to the HomePod with multiroom and stereo pairing support.

By default, the refresh process should be running in the background without you having any interaction. However, if you want to force the update or have auto-updates disabled at some point, you can now update your HomePod:

  • Open the app Home .
  • Touch the symbol Location .
  • Locate the section Speakers and select Software Update .
  • Drag to refresh on this page for the HomePod to search for the update.

The process takes about 10 minutes and makes the speaker unusable during this time. The screen at the top of the HomePod displays an animated white ring during the update process. As soon as the lights go out, your HomePod will be updated.

Once your HomePod has been updated, you can do anything you can do with AirPlay 2 . It's a good idea to bookmark this page as we will update it as we learn more.
