First things first: Back up

Before updating, use either iCloud or iTunes to back up your iPhone before installing iOS 12 . You may also need to free some space ; iOS 12 is 2.77 GB in size.

Method 1: Radio Upgrade

If you are on a Wi-Fi network, you can upgrade to iOS 12 directly from your device for computer or iTunes. Just plug your device into the charger and go to Settings> General> Software Update . iOS automatically checks for an update and prompts you to download and install iOS 12.

Method 2: Update via iTunes

If you are near your computer with iTunes, it may be faster to update in this way. In previous years, I found it faster to update through iTunes than over the mobile network.

First, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes by opening the App for the Mac App Store and clicking Updates to see if an update to iTunes is available.

If iTunes has been updated, connect your iOS device. Click the iPhone or iPad icon in the upper-left corner of iTunes next to the drop-down menu for the different sections of your iTunes library. Next, click Check for Update> Download and Update . Follow the instructions, accept the terms and let iTunes perform your task to update your iPhone or iPad.
