Measured by more than 2 billion active users per month, most have heard of Facebook. However, there are still a few people who did not jump on the social media bandwagon. When you finally join the world's most popular social media network, or just look for more information about the website you use on a regular basis, welcome! We are here to help you with the transition. Joining Facebook is easy and free – and a great way to keep in touch with friends and family, meet new people, and express yourself.
Our Facebook guide is by no means all-encompassing on the platform, but the following are some of the basics for any inexperienced social networker. Remember to keep these privacy settings in check!
First, you must go to the official Facebook website and sign up for an account. On the website you will be asked for your first and last name and your mobile phone number or e-mail address. You also need to enter your birthday and gender to help others find you on the site. Make sure you choose a password that's easy to remember and strong enough to let others guess.
A word about using your real name: While Facebook has relaxed its requirements for using anything other than your real name, in some cases you will generally be forced to provide your real name in your profile. Those who do not risk their accounts being blocked until they prove their identity. It's a process to be sure, so we suggest you use your real name from the start.
