How to Use the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection



You are at home or in the office in front of a computer and need to access another computer to retrieve a file, open an application, or troubleshoot an issue. How can you reach the other PC? While the other computer is turned on and set up for remote connections, you can remotely log in and control Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection feature.

You can remotely access multiple computers via the RDC network . You can also use it to access the Internet on PCs in different networks but requires some knowledge about firewalls and port forwarding. So we focus on connecting to a computer on the same network.

For example, you use a Microsoft account to log in to Windows, and your account has administrator rights. Use this account to log in remotely. Finally, make a note of the name of this computer because you must log it in remotely. If you want to change the computer name more easily, follow these steps. Close the Remote Desktop Settings screen when you are done.

Connect to remote PC

Let's say you want to connect to this remote PC. Start the Remote Desktop connection from the computer where you want to access the remote PC. To do this, click the Start button, scroll through the list, open the folder for Windows accessories, and select the shortcut for the Remote Desktop connection. Or click in the Search field, enter Remote Desktop Connection and select the result.

] In the RDC window, enter the name of the remote PC in the Computer box. Click the Show Options button and enter the username of the account that you use to log in. Click Connect

Enter your password in the login information window. Select the Remember me check box if you do not want to enter your password each time you use this account. Click OK.

You may receive a message that the identity of the remote computer can not be verified. Select the Do not ask me for connections to this computer check box and click Yes.

You should now connect to the remote computer so you can do it, run applications, open and work with files, and perform other tasks.

At the top of the screen is a blue link bar with various options. Use the controls on the left side of the bar to clamp the bar and check the connection speed. Use the controls on the right to minimize the remote taskbar window, resize the window, and end the remote session. When you're done, click the Close icon to end the connection.

From the Remote Desktop Connection setup screen, you can customize some of the tool's settings. On the General tab, enable "Allow me to save credentials" if you do not want to enter your username and password each time you connect.

As an alternative to the built-in Remote Desktop Connection Tool, you can use the Microsoft Remote Desktop App. Install the app from the Microsoft Store and start it. To set up a connection, click the Add button and select the option for Desktop.

Enter the name of the computer to which you want to connect. Click the + button to add your account. Enter your user name and password in the Account window. You can also add an account nickname if you want. Click on "Save".

On the Add Desktop screen, you can create a friendly name for this connection. Click on "Save".

Double-click the remote PC icon to connect.

Click the check box on the certificate screen to not ask for this certificate again. Click Connect.

Connect to a remote PC using a mobile device

Connect from iOS

To Connect to a remote console PC from an iPhone or iPad, install the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the App Store and launch it .

Tap the + button and select the Desktop option.

Enter the PC name. Enter or select a user account. Under Additional Options, you can create a friendly name for the connection and enable other settings. Touch Save.

Tap the icon to connect to the computer. Enter your password in the login information screen and switch the switch on Save username and password if you do not want to enter them each time. Touch Done.

Finally, you can connect to a Windows PC from an Android phone or tablet. Download and launch the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from Google Play . Accept the agreement.

Tap the + icon to add a connection and select Desktop.

When You Are Nearby You can use the remote PC to search for it. Otherwise, add it manually. Enter the PC name and your username. Add additional options. Click on "Save".
