Whether you're recording a voice message as a reminder of this million-dollar idea or capturing a portion of a new song you'll forget, the Voice Memos app for iPhone and iPad is the perfect tool.
The Voice Notes app is free and comes with every iPhone and iPad that Apple sells. This makes it the obvious choice for audio recording. Like Apple's other first-party apps, the Voice Memos app has enough power to do the job without completing complicated tasks. Recording and sharing audio is the most common use for the app, and we'll show you exactly how to do it.
Record Audio with the Voice Memos App
Open the Voice Memos app to start, and then tap the large red Record button. You can not miss it.
To pause the recording, tap the white pill button, and then tap the Pause button. After pausing, tap the same button to continue recording. This screen also displays a waveform of your recording.
Tap the "Done" button when you have finished your recording.
How to Play an Existing Recording
It's not good to record these things if you never really hear them, but thankfully, this process only takes a few clicks. Open the Voice Notes app and tap the recording you want.
If you selected this option, tap the black Play button to start recording.
One of the most popular uses for recordings is to share them with other people, and that's very easy. Start by opening the Voice Memos app and selecting the recording you want to share.
Tap the three horizontal dots (also called "More" in iOS) and then "Share" option.
Finally, choose how you want to share the recording.
