How to watch Disney + with friends remotely with GroupWatch

Disney plus group watch

Watching movies and TV shows with friends and family is great, but it can be difficult when you are not together. Disney + has a feature called “GroupWatch” that allows you to easily watch your favorite Disney titles together but remotely.

GroupWatch is similar to Amazon̵

7;s Watch Party feature. You can invite anyone with a Disney + subscription (up to seven people in total) to watch a movie or TV show with you in real time. If someone pauses the video, it will pause for everyone. The stream remains synchronized for the entire group.

This feature works on iPhone, iPad, Android, Roku, Chromecast, and any other place you can watch Disney +. It’s easy to go ahead and see something together without actually being together.

First, open Disney + on your device and find something to watch. Select the GroupWatch icon from the title screen.

Click Group Monitoring

The next step is to add people to your group. Select the “+” symbol next to your profile photo.

You now have the option to copy a link to send to your friends and family. If you are on a device with a built-in sharing menu, e.g. For example, an iPhone or Android device, you can share the link directly with another app.

Copy link to group

When people open the link and join the stream, their avatar is displayed. Select “Start Stream” to start the movie or TV show.

Click Start Stream

Once the stream has started, anyone can control it. These include play / pause, fast forward, rewind, and search. The changes will be displayed on the screen.

The other part of GroupWatch is responses. These are emoji for various reactions that appear on the screen while viewing. That way, you can communicate your feelings to the group without being too distracting.

In the web browser, it’s so easy to hover over the emoji icon and click on a reaction. On mobile devices, the reactions can be moved on the right side of the screen.

When you use GroupWatch on your TV, either through casting, using a set-top box, or using a smart TV, your mobile device becomes a “remote control” for reactions.

That’s pretty much it. If you actually want to chat with your group, you’ll need to use a separate app or text them.
