It first happened more than a decade ago at UFC 98, where Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida were battling it out for the light heavyweight title.

Nigerian fighter Israel Adesanya is widely recognized as one of the UFC’s top strikers. His Brazilian opponent Costa is not far behind and is currently second in the UFC middleweight division, just behind Adesanya. Aside from the unlikely tie, one of these fighters with the middleweight championship belt will drop out of the octagon at UFC 253 while the other will drop out with his first professional loss.

The co-main event at UFC 253 is another highly anticipated matchup which is a light heavyweight competition between Dominick Reyes (12-1) and Jan Blachowicz (26-8). Up-and-coming MMA star Reyes signed with the UFC in 2017 and was most recently a contender for the light heavyweight title, which he challenged at UFC 247 but was defeated by unanimous decision by champion Jon Jones – the first loss in Reyes’ promising career. A veteran Polish fighter who has been with the UFC since 2014, Blachowicz began his career at the age of 37 and could have an uphill battle against the younger Reyes who will be starving for both a win and another title shot.

Both high stakes fights take place on the main map UFC 253: Adesanya vs. Costa, which will air at 10 p.m. CET this evening. The main card is the pay-per-view portion of the event, which airs exclusively on ESPN + so you can keep going Join Now If you haven’t seen UFC 253 online tonight, or you can Grab this bundle offer That way, along with the UFC 253 PPV package, you save $ 30 on ESPN + worth a year.
