Samsung has turned curved displays into a signature element of its flagship phones, but the so-called edge-screen has proven to be a magnet for accidental touches. Fortunately, Samsung has developed a little-known app to prevent this problem.
With the app's aptly named EdgeTouch, you can customize the Palm Rejection software on your Galaxy device so that the rounded edges no longer indicate inadvertent touches. You do not need to be rooted to use this app, you just need to run Android Nougat or Oreo on any Samsung phone with curved edges like the Galaxy S7, S8, S9 or Note 8.
: Install EdgeTouch
To get the ball rolling, open the "Galaxy Apps" app that you can find in your app drawer. From there, search for "EdgeTouch" and select the top result. Then tap on "Install".
19659004] Next, open EdgeTouch and grant permission to save by tapping Allow in the popup. By default, the app is set to "Optimized," and selecting "Show Edge Zone" below lets you see the current setting. The yellow lines mark the zones where the touch input is not registered at all, while the green bands mark the areas where the touch is not registered when you pick up or hold the phone.
Here you can play with your phone Activate this setting to better understand the fringes. Then go back to EdgeTouch and tap "Show Edge Zones" again to exit the preview mode. Touch Add Edge Zone after creating your custom privacy profile.
Now adjust the yellow areas on the Blocked Zone page by dragging the bars – remember that accidental touches are avoided at all. Press "Next" when you are satisfied, and do the same if you adjust the green bands within the "Grip Zone" for improved Palm Rejection.
You must then repeat the landscape mode operation to your liking, and when finished, tap Done. Now enter the name of your custom profile to complete the setup, and then click OK. Your custom profile is now available on the main page of the app.
When you tap your custom profile, you may see a message prompting you to return to the Optimized profile if you decide to uninstall the app and press OK to confirm. You can now leave the app and spend the rest of the day.
As you can see from the following GIFs, the difference starts. With a custom profile enabled in Edge Touch, inadvertent touches on the edge of the Galaxy Display are a thing of the past. So you can watch videos on YouTube and never worry about accidentally switching to another video while grabbing your device.
