Jailbreak from iOS 12 to iOS 12.4 on your iPhone «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

With Unc0ver, Pwn20wnd was the first to successfully jailbreak an iPhone and an iPad with iOS 12 versions. While initially it could not work on all devices, it's a whole different story now. Unc0ver currently supports iOS 12.4 for devices with A7 to A12X. In addition, Chimera, another jailbreak tool, supports a similar set of models and versions.

Unknown jailbreaking means that restrictions on iOS are lifted to access apps and optimizations that Apple does not allow. That way, you can change the interface and features of your iPhone using the Cydia or Sileo apps. And while the list of available optimizations has declined due to the difficulty of jailbreaking, thanks to passionate developers, a lot of compatible optimizations are oozing out and keeping the community alive.

The process is fairly straightforward for both methods, but since this is semi-untethered every time you restart or shut down your iPhone, you must re-enable the device that you use with the same steps. It's also worth noting that the Unc0ver tool installs Cydia on your iPhone while Chimera uses the newer Sileo app 1

2.4. For phones, this ranges from the models iPhone 5 S to the iPhone X S and X R . However, Unc0ver only partially supports A12 and A12X devices because code injection still does not work. Cydia Substrates currently only supports A7 to A11 devices. However, Pwn20wnd has developed a replacement-based alternative for newer devices. That's just not finished. So if you have an A12 or A12X device, it will not feel like a complete jailbreak, so it might not be worth it yet.

As for the Chimera jailbreak, it also supports A7 to A12X devices. However, for phones, A12 support is limited to iOS 12 through iOS 12.1.2. So these are the iPhone X S X S Max and X R . All other iPhone models are supported from iOS 12 to iOS 12.4.

Supported on UncOver:

Supported on Chimera:

  • iPhone X R [19659006] (iOS 12-12.1.2)
  • iPhone X S / Max (iOS 12-12.1.2)
  • iPhone X (iOS 12-12.1.2) [19659017] iPhone 8 / Plus (iOS 12-12.4)
  • iPhone 7 / Plus (iOS 12-12.4)
  • iPhone 6 S / Plus (iOS 12-12.4)
  • iPhone SE (iOS 12-12.4)
  • iPhone 5 S (iOS 12-12.4)

You & # 39; Also note that neither tool works on iPhone models if you have recently updated your device to iOS 13 or later. With iOS 13 still in beta, you can still downgrade to the latest version of iOS 12.

Step 1: Download and Install UncOver or Chimera

There are several ways the tools Unc0ver and Chimera install your iPhone to jailbreak. The first method is ideal, but Apple may cause problems in the future. The second method is better, except that you must repeat the process unless you have a paid developer account.

Method 1: Open TweakBox & Install in Safari

Before You Go This Route It is very important to note that Apple from time to time may revoke unauthorized apps' certificates and thereby invalidate you prevents Unc0ver from being installed via Safari. If this method does not work for you, you'll need to scroll to the second method to jailbreak your iPhone. Once the certificates are available again, we will post an update. Stay up to date.

Open Safari on your device to get the ball rolling and go to next.tweakboxapp.com. Go to the Apps tab on the website by either tapping the top of the Apps tab or swiping to the left. Select the "Tweakbox App" once. Scroll down from there and select "Unjailbreak" or "Chimera Jailbreak" to open the page. Alternatively, you can also use the following direct links.

Then click on the red "Install" button In the confirmation prompt that appears, tap "Install" again , The app is now installed on your iPhone. Wait a second or two for the process to complete. Exit Safari and continue to the next step as soon as the Unc0ver or Chimera icon appears on the home screen of your iPhone. Do not open the app yet!

Method 2: Installing with Cydia Impactor

You can install Unc0ver or Chimera with Cydia Impactor to load one of the two tools onto your iPhone. Of course you need a Mac or PC and the latest IPA file that you can download to your computer by clicking on the following link.

If you have all, you can choose this route The files you need, and side-loading one of the two tools from your computer, essentially involves connecting your iPhone to your Mac or PC using USB-to-Lightning Cable or USB-C-to-Lightning cable, opening Cydia Impactor and directly dragging the IPA file for Unc0ver into it. Enter your Apple ID when prompted and wait for the process to complete. Be sure to read our tutorial at the following link for more detailed instructions on this topic.

If you chose this method, please keep in mind that due to Apple's restrictions on free accounts, if you have a regular Apple ID, you can load the IPA sideways for Unc0ver or Chimera every 7 days. However, if you have a legitimate Apple Developer ID, you only need to reinstall it once a year.

After all, it does not make sense to pay Apple $ 100 for developer privileges because the page load is relatively quick and easy. Also, the weekly limit of your certificate does not affect the jailbreak of your iPhone in any way – assuming it stays on.

However, if it shuts down for some reason and has passed more than a week, you will need to retransfer the IPA file to Cydia Impactor and drop it there. Be sure to go to step two once you've successfully downloaded Unc0ver or Chimera to your iPhone.

Step 2: Trust your profile.

You still need to trust yourself as a developer You can open the jailbreak tool of your choice, regardless of which method was used in the first step. Do not open the app yet and follow the menu below to go to "Device Management".

Settings -> General -> Device Management

Once you access Device Management tap either "Lebo International Investment Development" if you have Unc0ver installed on Safari, or Apple Credentials you entered when you loaded Unc0ver or Chimera side-by-side with Cydia Impactor. Next, click "Trust" on the following page. Now click on "Trust" one last time and finish the settings. Then continue with the last steps.

Step 3: Delete the iOS update from memory (if necessary)

Before you jailbreak your iPhone, you still need to remove any iOS software updates that you may have saved in your phone's memory. Otherwise, running a jailbreak will result in a fatal error and failure. Nevertheless, we recommend to play it safe to ensure the smoothest possible process.

  Settings -> General ->
iPhone storage -> iOS 12.x.x

Open the iPhone Storage menu to search for saved iOS updates. Scroll down and touch "iOS 12.x.x". Click on "Delete update" and confirm the deletion in the displayed command prompt.

Step 4: Open either UncOver or Chimera & run the jailbreak.

You can now start jailbreaking your iPhone. Disable all Internet connections and enable airplane mode. Then open either the UncOver or the Chimera app and press the jailbreak button. Note that the process is step by step. After rebooting the iPhone, you must reopen one of the two applications and repeat the process at least three times to trigger the jailbreak successfully. This is the first time you have to click on "OK".

Jailbreak of an iPhone X S with Chimera.

Once your device is successful in jailbreaking, a super The fast full screen notification "Jailbreak Completed" flashes briefly to notify you (Unc0ver) or just to respringen (Chimera). After launching, an icon for Cydia (Unc0ver) or Sileo (Chimera) will appear on your home screen. Now you have the option to open one of the two apps and start installing various (available) enhancements to customize your iPhone and make it truly your own. You can even install Sileo from Cydia if you prefer to use it instead of Cydia.

Important Notes

Although we have already mentioned it above, we must emphasize that both jailbreaking methods are not tightly connected to each other, the jailbreak must be reactivated on every time the iPhone shuts down, as shown in step 4 – on purpose or on others Wise. Apart from that, you do not have to worry about re-enabling the optimizations and modifications you've specified, as they will automatically work as soon as your jailbreak resumes.

Also note that the process between devices may be slightly different. Indicate how many times you need to repeat the process for jailbreaking to break out. For example, when testing Unc0ver on an iPhone 8 on iOS 12, we found that the jailbreak was finally installed after more than 15 attempts with several reboots. On an iPhone X with iOS 12.1.2, however, it only took three times for both Unc0ver and Chimera. So try again if your iPhone does not jailbreak your first attempts.

Finally, it's important to mention that although you can install Chimera and use it to override your existing Unc0ver-based jailbreak, this will effectively disable Cydia and of course any tweaks you've made with this app. This means you need to reinstall your optimizations with Sileo.

We would appreciate your feedback on this jailbreak method. So do not hesitate to leave a comment below to let us know how smooth (or rough) the process was overall for your iPhone. Also mention any issues that may have occurred and the iOS firmware you are currently on.
