Leap Motion's new experimental tools allow developers to access camera data and unlock support for multiple devices «Next Reality



After leaving an executive start and publishing reports of a failed sale to Apple, Leap Motion is once again devoting its business to expanding the framework for development and interaction with augmented reality.

This week released two experimental features

. Leap Motion Image

On Tuesday, Leap Motion unveiled LeapUVC, an extension of its Image API that allows developers to access the camera data of the Leap Motion Controller. This is similar to Research Mode for HoloLens.

Universal Video Class (UVC) is the industry standard camera interface. Therefore, LeapUVC gives developers more control over features like LED brightness, gamma, exposure, gain, resolution, and more.

The build includes an installer and example code for Unity to start developers. Although hand-tracking from one device to another is not supported, or tracking from multiple angles, Leap Motion indicates that the first experimental build is a step in that direction.
