When you think back to the first Ironman Movie, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) had a strange phone. At first glance, it looked like a standard candy bar phone of the day popularized by Nokia. But at the push of a button, the display folded into a horizontal layout.
Unlike the transparent phones that would replace it in the sequels, the funky phone is real. It’s the LG VX9400, yesterday’s feature phone. And LG’s latest cell phone is clearly inspired by its older brother.
A couple of leaks gave us a better view, but you can see the basics of the concept in LG’s teaser video. What looks like a standard Android smartphone is transformed by sliding a second screen out horizontally to form a T with the first display.
Someone might want to tell LG that Microsoft has already covered the “rotating screen shows a wave” aesthetic. The Wing’s form factor can make for some interesting use cases, but only if LG has the software to secure it.
