Born out of LG’s Explorer project, the LG Wing is the company’s first attempt at finding a new way to use a phone. When you first record it it appears to be a standard device (albeit with a thick platter). But give it the right pressure, and the screen will pivot out and up to show a second display below. The two form a T-shape that enables new functions.
When folded out, the wing is capable of multitasking. You can have one app on one screen and another app on the second screen. This is useful when you want to load maps on the go, but also want easy access to Spotify controls.
The two ads can even work together to improve a single app. For example, if you have a keyboard on the horizontal screen and your messaging app on the other, just hold the phone “upside down”. Cameras see an improvement too; When you pivot the main display to its horizontal position, you can grip the secondary display like a gimbal.
The LG Wing is coming to Verizon on October 15 for $ 999.99, and pre-orders begin October 1. However, you can lower the price through Verizon’s trade-in program.
