At the Augmented World Expo in Stockholm, Sweden-based eye-tracking company Tobii announced that augmented reality display company Lumus will integrate its eye-tracking technology into the Lumus DK50 AR development kit  In addition to DAQRI and Atheer, the company also has a number of development kits that serve as a reference design for OEM manufacturers looking to launch their own AR Smartglasses.
The DK50 features the OE50, a waveguide display less than 2 mm thick, offering a resolution of 1280 x 720 at 60 fps and a 40-degree field of view. The device runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 and packs a Snapdragon 820 and a pair of synced 4 megapixel cameras. According to a company spokesman, the DK50 is very similar to its successor, the DK51, with only minor design differences between the two.
"At Lumus, our mission is to deliver the world's best transparent displays for smart eyewear and goggles, displays that change the way people interact with reality," said Eli Glikman, Lumus's chief product officer , in a statement. "Working with Tobii, we can offer device manufacturers a highly compelling AR display combination."

When Lumus was unveiled At CES 2016, the company SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) for its eye-tracking Technology connected to the DK50. Since then, Apple has acquired SMI, prompting Lumus to look for another supplier.
Innovative methods for user input become so important for augmented reality headsets and smart glasses like the mouse for the PC and the touchscreen for smartphones. Eyetracking is a method that hardware manufacturers will increasingly associate with hand tracking in the near future, while more advanced technologies such as brain control interfaces will mature in the background.
"This collaboration provides additional evidence of strong demand. We are seeing eye-tracking technology integrated into AR and VR devices," said Oscar Werner, Tobii's Business Area Manager. "Over the past two years, we've focused on partnerships and projects to integrate eyetracking into VR headsets to get better VR devices and better user experience, and at the same time we see a growing interest in AR, where the benefits of Eye- Tracking is even stronger.
