Apple was already busy with the new iPhone 11 and 11 Pro iPads, the new Apple Arcade Game Service Apple Watch Series 5 Smartwatches and to bring the market Apple TV Plus . And now, without missing a step, appears Catalina (19459005), the latest version of the MacOS. With Catalina (19459005), Apple (19459014) replaced the iTunes app (19459005) with three separate apps: Apple Music Apple Podcasts and Apple TV. Perhaps just as useful, the revision allows Mac users to run iPad apps which they can download via the Mac App Store and use as a second screen a iPad monitor. And with Catalina, Mac users can now try Apple Arcade .

If you can not wait to hold Apple's new operating system in your hands, you can download and install Catalina here.

Check if you can run Catalina

First, check to see if you can install the new OS before you get started. The hardware requirements of Catalina are the same as for MacOS Mojave, the current version of the operating system. So if you can do Mojave, you can do Catalina. The following Macs meet the requirements:

To check which Mac you have, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. The Overview tab shows which Mac you have.

Before You Install Catalina …

Before you download and install the MacOS update, make sure that switching to Catalina is as smooth as possible.

Make a backup copy. Before you download and install a large MacOS update, you should make a good, up-to-date backup of the contents of your Mac drive if something goes south during installation or afterward and you need to go back. You can use either the Time Machine backup utility built into your Mac or a Mac backup app such as Carbon Copy Cloner

. Know your Apple ID. If you're a Mac user, you probably have an Apple ID. If not, get one as you will most likely need it during the installation process of Catalina and logging in to iCloud.

Check your free space. The download is large – about 6.5GB – and Apple said you probably should have over 20GB of free space to install Catalina.

Update your apps. With Catalina, Apple disables support for 32-bit apps. If you have an older app that you are still using, such as For example, Microsoft Office 11 for Mac, check if you have a 64-bit version of the app before switching to Catalina. Otherwise, you will either have to find a replacement or stick to your current MacOS so you can continue to use the software.

Ready? Download and install

After completing your preparations, you can download and install Catalina.

1. Go to the Mac App Store and tap Updates in the left sidebar. If Catalina is available, the new operating system should be listed. You can also search for "Catalina" in the shop if you do not see it. If that does not work, choose "About This Mac" from the Apple menu and tap "Software Update" to see if it appears. If you still do not see it, Apple may do a staggered update. So be patient while it comes out.

2. Tap the "Update" or "Get" button to download the update.

3. Follow the installation instructions to complete the installation.
