With the launch of Magic Leap One on Wednesday, Magic Leap has released an essential component that sets it apart from current augmented reality platforms.
Available in Lumin SDK 0.16.0, Lumin Runtime is the environment within the Lumin operating system that allows multiple applications to run concurrently. This is the scene that Magic Leap painted two years ago in his demo "Wake Up with Mixed Reality".
Along with the preview comes the Lumin Runtime SDK, which provides APIs, templates, and simulator support for creating Contains apps that can play in Space, and the Lumin Runtime Editor to compose scenes and assets for these apps. While the Lumin Runtime is compatible with the ML Remote Simulator, some of the unique capabilities of the Magic Leap One, such as World Ray Casting and Eye Tracking, are not supported.
Additionally, the new version of the Lumin SDK brings several enhancements and bug fixes to ML Remote and other developer tools. However, since this is an early version, there are a number of known issues that need to be navigated.
Both SDKs are now available through the Magic Leap Package Manager.
