7;s oxygen levels dropped rapidly on Friday morning, raising concerns about his health, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said Saturday night.

In an interview with Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, Meadows said that both he and White House Doctor Dr. Sean Conley, said Friday morning was “really concerned” about Trump’s condition after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.

“He has improved incredibly since yesterday morning when I knew some of us, the doctor and I, were very concerned,” said Meadows.

“The biggest thing we see is that we don’t have a fever now and that he is doing really well with his oxygen saturation levels … We were really concerned about that yesterday morning. He had a fever and his blood oxygen levels were going down quickly.”

According to the New York Times and Associated Press, the president was given supplemental oxygen at the White House on Friday when he was having difficulty breathing. He was taken to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center later that day.

The White House declined to comment when contacted by CNBC.

The White House Doctor, Dr. Sean Conley, and Dr. Sean Dooley, a pulmonologist with Walter Reed, told reporters Saturday morning that the president did not use supplemental oxygen and had no breathing difficulties. At no point would doctors comment on whether Trump had been given supplemental oxygen.

A source familiar with Trump’s condition told NBC News that some of the president’s vital signs that morning indicated that the coronavirus could go beyond mild illness.

The White House released an update Saturday night, and White House Doctor Conley said the president was having “supplemental oxygen throughout the day with a saturation level between 96 and 98%.” He said Trump stayed fever free and is still doing well.

“The doctor is spot on. He’s doing very well,” Meadows told Fox News. “I’m very, very optimistic based on the current results. As the doctor said, he’s not out of the woods, the next 48 hours are still with the history of this virus that we know can be difficult. “
