Both President Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden have campaign events scheduled in Michigan this week – but the state governor only approves one of them, according to a report.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, said the Trump event scheduled for Thursday was “very distressing” while the Biden event scheduled for Wednesday was okay with her, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The difference, Whitmer said, was that the Biden event would encourage attendees to wear masks as a coronavirus precaution – while she was less sure about the Trump event.

Whitmer made the remarks Tuesday night during an appearance on CNN the same night President Trump appeared at a rally in Winston-Salem, NC
Behind the president were many supporters on Tuesday evening who wore bright red face masks with either “TRUMP”
But Whitmer told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that she was concerned that Trump would encourage attendees at his Michigan event to arrive without a mask.
“We assume that it will descend into this state and maybe encourage people to go maskless,” said Whitmer. “It’s very worrying. I would love to see our country’s leader hugging masks and encouraging people to do the right thing. “
Whitmer said she had no similar concerns about the event for Biden, who Whitmer reportedly saw as his companion before choosing U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif.
“I know they are scrupulous about science,” said Whitmer of the Biden campaign, “and they want to protect their supporters and the general public.”
CNN’s Cooper asked Whitmer if she intended to share her Trump campaign concerns, but she didn’t respond directly to the question, the Free Press reported.
“I don’t doubt there will be people who want to show up at this (Trump) event and take the lead from the man himself,” she said, “and drop their guard and submit to COVID-19.” ”
In an interview with Michigan’s 9 & 10 News on Tuesday, Whitmer said the masks debate was the toughest coronavirus battle in her state while her decision to close schools was the toughest for her.
President Trump is expected to appear in an airport hangar near MBS International Airport in Freeland, about 116 miles northwest of Detroit, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

Biden is scheduled to appear in Warren, about 20 miles north of downtown Detroit, at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Whitmer was one of the most vocal governors in the country who supported efforts to contain the coronavirus. Her orders often led to protests against her policies, both at the Lansing statehouse and near her state residence.
This residence will soon receive more than $ 1 million in security improvements, including an 8-foot barrier around the property, the Detroit News reported last week.
