The longer Apple, Snapchat, Facebook and other technology giants need to create their own version of augmented reality headsets and smartglasses, the more hands-on experience Microsoft has with HoloLens and its sequel. The latest example: AR cloning.
Include Samsung as one of the technology companies looking to enter the consumer electronics industry of AR wearables. The company's research and development work will continue in this regard, as evidenced by the latest patent from smartglasses.
In the meantime, some manufacturers of AR-related components continue to improve the technology. The latest examples come from an Nvidia AR display breakthrough and an entry-level standalone depth camera from Intel.

Samsung Patents Reveal Foldable Smartglass Design
In the past, patents have never been a solid source to uncover a company's future product pipeline. However, sometimes the images you find in the patent application search archives are so convincing that you have to pay attention to them.
This is the case with Samsung and its recent patent application for a pair of augmented reality smartglasses. The patent application was filed on Jan. 2 and published on Jul. 11, and describes a "folding type portable electronic device having an optical transmission element for transmitting light from a projector to a transparent element".
