With the launch of HoloLens 2 approaching every day, Microsoft is preparing new users to take advantage of its software from day one.
This week, Microsoft has uploaded a series of educational videos to its YouTube channel for Dynamics 365 Guides, a corporate AR app that enables companies to progressively build AR workflows or guide people through complex tasks and then measure performance, to improve processes.
The Guides app was originally released along with HoloLens 2 in February, but the tutorial videos give the business a little more insight into how the app works.
After an animated overview of guides, two videos guide users through the authoring process that starts over the PC before proceeding The HoloLens App.
On the PC, users set the anchoring method (more on that later), set up the structure for the process, add step-by-step instructions, and upload media and 3D models to follow the steps as needed.
During the HoloLens phase, users anchor the guideline, place holograms throughout the workspace, add dotted lines and other 3D content, and test the guideline.
The next two videos in the series deal with anchors to keep track of AR content. The Guides app supports two types of anchors: printed and digital.
The preferred method is the printed anchor, which inherits the QR code from Microsoft. It is a three-by-three grid of circles with different patterns. The digital anchor uses object recognition to identify a component in the workflow B. Machine parts.
Matches a 3D model of an object that can be converted from CAD drawings to a glTF or GLB file format Uploaded during the PC phase of the process with a real version of this object.
Microsoft also includes a video for the end user. In this chapter of the series, users learn how to operate the app, how to use the gaze cursor to select menu items, scan an anchor, and enter instructions in outer space.
The finale of the series deals with business intelligence capabilities of guides. The software includes a dashboard where managers can review each session to see how long the process lasts and which steps take the longest. In this way, the user can identify workflow inefficiencies.
Managers can then communicate their findings to the author who can customize them. Guide to better understanding or use the information to revise the work process itself.
HoloLens 2 is already developing on its release as the best augmented reality headset on the market.
Despite a crowded field with a variety of options, Microsoft may also have the best suite of enterprise applications.
