Group chats in WhatsApp are great for reaching your friends in one place. The larger the group, the more notifications you will likely get. Needless to say, it can get annoying very quickly. You can mute notifications for all your conversations, but that's not practical if some are important. However, it is possible to mute group chats themselves and even leave them as needed.
After mute, you will not receive notifications for new messages in the group. You can still open the app anyway to see what's going on in the group and what you missed. Leaving a group chat is a kill-all switch when there is no reason to stay in conversation.
Muteing group chats and leaving WhatsApp calls can be done on both Android and iOS Use the links below to jump to the section you want.

. Muting a Specific Group Chat (iOS)
There are two ways to mute a specific group chat on an iPhone. First, you can do this on page Group Info and second, by swiping to the left in the conversation. For more information, see the following sections.
Tap the group conversation to open it. Then tap on the upper part with the name of the group Chat and the numbers and contact names of all participants. On the following page, tap Group Info on "Mute".
Now you can mute the group chat for 8 hours, 1 week, or 1 year. There is no way to mute it forever. Whatever you decide, you will not receive group chat notifications, but you can still read and send new messages.
If you ever want to unmute the group chat, tap Mute. On the Group Info page, select from the action sheet. You will receive notifications for the group chat again.
Option 2: Swiping in chat view
The simpler method is to swipe left on a chat group thread on the Chats tab to see the options available. Wipe slowly, because if you go too fast, you can archive the thread immediately. In the action sheet, tap More, then Mute. You'll see the same settings to mute group chat for "8 hours," "1 week," or "1 year."
To ungroup the group chat, swipe left again. tap More and select Unmute.
If you use WhatsApp on Android, silencing certain group chats is slightly different than iOS. However, there are also two ways to do this. You can do this by using the three-point menu in the group chat or by long pressing on a group chat thread on the "Chats" page.
Option 1: Using the Three-Point Menu Open the conversation, if you have not already done so, and tap the three-dot menu icon. Tap Mute notifications, and then select either 8 hours, 1 week, or 1 year, depending on how long you do not want to receive notifications. There is no way to stop them forever. Make sure the box next to "Show notifications" is cleared. If this option is enabled, you will still receive notifications in the status bar, notification bar, and LED alerts. However, no popups or sounds are displayed.
To turn notifications on in the group chat thread: Tap the three-point menu, then tap Turn Notifications On.
Option 2: Pressing Long in Chat View
The fastest way is on the thread in the "Chats" page. Then tap the mute (crossed-out speaker) button at the top right, and select either "8 weeks," "1 week," or "1 year," as in the first option. Make sure the box next to "Show notifications" is cleared. If this option is enabled, you will still receive notifications in the status bar, notification bar, and LED alerts. However, no popups or sounds are displayed.
